Ducati has signed a licensing agreement with toy firm Spin Master Corp. for a series of branded Meccano models (very best known in the U.S. marketplace as Erector Sets). The first product below the agreement is a model based on the Ducati Monster 1200S.
Whilst not fairly as realistic as the Pocher Ducati 1299 Panigale S Model kit announced in December, the Meccano Ducati Monster 1200S Develop and Play kit does a fair job of recreating some of the bike’s functions such as the staggered shotgun exhaust and single-sided swingarm. The red side pieces also do a passable job of translating the Monster’s new steel trellis frame design into the Erector Set aesthetic.
The kickstand really deploys even though the steering and coil-spring rear suspension function realistically, although it is odd seeing what looks like a girder fork up front. But Erector Sets have been in no way about producing exact replicas. Rather, the focus has constantly been on the construction and engineering. The quite a few bolts and mounting points will allow youngsters to assemble their personal Monster or make their personal mechanical creations from the kit’s 290-plus parts.
“We are delighted to announce this new licensing agreement, which will let us to develop Ducati motorcycles in the distinctive Meccano style,” says Alessandro Cicognani, Ducati Licensing Director. “I’m sure that Ducati fans of any age will have a lot of fun playing with the Meccano Construct and Play series.”
The Ducati Monster 1200S will probably be just the initial licensed Build and Play Kit from Meccano. We wouldn’t e shocked to see a Scrambler version in the near future. The Kits are now available at toy and hobby retailers that carry Meccano goods, although it’s not clear if they will be offered in the U.S. below the Erector Set brand.
